Trust your instincts.
If you are worried, discuss your worries openly with your child.

There is no certain way of knowing a young person is being bullied.  Some signs are:

 q       changes in behaviour

-         unwillingness to go to school

-         doing less well at school

-         giving up interests and hobbies

Remember there could be other reasons for these.

q       Ask questions carefully, persistent questioning may be counter-productive.

-         take an interest in his/her friends

-         ask what happens at morning interval, lunchtime and on the way to and from school

q       If you are still worried, share your concerns with the school.  At least the school will be alert to the possibility of a problem.

The key messages to get across to the person being bullied are:
§   It's not your fault you are being bullied
§ You don't have to face this on your own.
