Reading for Success is a scheme which pupils in First and Second Year take part in.

Students pick a book to read and each week they must read at least 25 pages.  They can, of course, read more than this only if they want to.  Once they have read 25 pages, they will then get a parent or guardian to sign a bookmark which they have designed.

Once a student reads 9 books, they receive a Bronze Award;  18 books for Silver;  36 for Gold;  50 for Diamond and 60 for Platinum.

For each book pupils read, they will complete worksheets which have been specially designed to look at all aspects of writing e.g. character, plot, imagery etc.  It is hoped that by Second Year, students will keep a journal and will write more fully about the books they have read.

In First Year, pupils will dress up as a character they have read about in a book, and will be sponsored to do so.  Last year the entire First Year group and English department staff, visited Megabowl in Kinnaird Park, Edinburgh, then went to see 'Star Wars:  Return of the Clones' at the UCI.
