Over the first two years at Eyemouth High School, pupils
are taught the skills in each strand of writing, set out in the 5-14
Curriculum.
FUNCTIONAL WRITING
The Functional Writing Course introduces pupils to formal discursive,
informative and persuasive language. Students will learn a variety
of skills including writing letters, designing posters and leaflets and
writing essays on a number of topics.

PERSONAL WRITING
The Personal Writing Course helps pupils understand what skills they need
to help them write about and describe feelings. They will learn
about figurative language (similes, metaphors, alliteration etc. and will
complete a number of tasks which will help them write essays describing
personal experiences.

IMAGINATIVE WRITING
The Imaginative Writing Course will help pupils write creatively and to
invent characters, make up stories and learn about the different genres
involved in imaginative writing. Pupils can use these skills to
write short stories, plays and poetry.
