Please look through the other
sections about bullying in the order you think is most helpful to you.
q
Bullying
cannot be stopped by pupils, parents or teachers acting alone.
q
Please
contact your child's guidance teacher or, if unavailable, any member of
the Senior Management Team.
q
If
there is any difficulty in making contact, insist that your youngster
has a problem and that you need to speak to someone.
The
key messages to get across to your child are:
§
Its not your fault you are being
bullied.
§
You dont have to face this on your
own.
q
Children often hide bullying from their
parents because they are frightened of what the bullies might do.
Sometimes they are unsure or frightened of their parents'
reactions.
q
Your child needs your confidence and
understanding.
q
Listen carefully and calmly.
Trust your child, but be aware that you may not have the full
story.
q
Write a note of the details you know
before phoning the school so that you do not miss something out.
q
Try and find ways of rebuilding your
child's self confidence.
q
If your child is finding difficulty in
talking to you, encourage him/her to tell a teacher.
q
Telling a bullied child to hit back
rarely works.
q
Don't get involved with other families,
this is likely to make the situation even worse.
The
clear target is to get any bullying stopped.
